A few college football prognosticators believe Saturday’s Ole Miss road game against Auburn is a trap game for the Rebels.

But the Rebels should be ready.

If Ole Miss had anything close to a trap game this year it was Memphis. Ole Miss entered that game at No. 13 in the country while Memphis was unranked, but undefeated. The Memphis game fell between a 52-3 blowout of New Mexico State and Texas A&M.

Coming off its 23-3 victory over then-No. 15 Texas A&M last week, Ole Miss enters Saturday’s game at 6-2 overall and 3-1 in the SEC. After its 54-46 four-overtime loss last week to Arkansas, Auburn is 4-3 and 1-3.

Auburn is expected to return one of its top defensive players, sophomore defensive end Carl Lawson, who injured a hip in the season opener against Louisville and hasn’t played since. Lawson practiced for the first time on Tuesday, according to media reports.

Having Lawson back would be a big boost for the Tigers’ defense. Auburn ranks 13th in the SEC with 11 sacks. One of those 11 sacks belongs to Lawson in the season opener.

As a true freshman in 2013, Lawson had 20 total tackles, including 7.5 tackles for loss and four sacks. He was redshirted last season after he tore an ACL.

Ole Miss junior receiver Laquon Treadwell, who suffered a gruesome leg injury in last season’s game against the Tigers as he stretched to reach the end zone for a potential go-ahead touchdown, sounded highly motivated in practice this week.

“They’re going to feel my pain,” Treadwell told AL.com. I’ll have an extra edge. I know my teammates are feeling me all week and they’ll feel where I’m coming from and I think they’ll play with an extra edge, also.”

Treadwell leads the Rebels in receiving this season with 54 receptions for 756 yards and five TDs. Ole Miss quarterback Chad Kelly has completed 180 of 276 attempts for 2,475 yards and 18 TDs.

Sean White has seen the bulk of playing time for Auburn in the last four games. For the season, he has passed for 473 yards and five TDs. He has thrown six interceptions.

Auburn running back Peyton Barber leads the team in rushing with 787 yards on 172 carries and averages 110 yards per game. He has 12 TDs. Ricardo Lewis leads the Tigers in receptions with 32 for 426 yards. He has one TD.

The Ole Miss defensive unit might have two of its defensive standouts — tackle Robert Nkemdiche and safety Tony Connor — return from injury. Nkemdiche suffered a concussion two weeks ago in a 37-24 loss to Memphis. Conner suffered a torn meniscus earlier in the year and returned to practice this week on a limited basis.
