Many fans will argue that every SEC game is important, and they just might have a point, but some are bigger than others for every team in the SEC West.

Here’s a look at the most important conference games for every SEC West team this season:

Alabama Crimson Tide

Most important game: Alabama at Ole Miss, Sept. 17 in Oxford. Considering that Ole Miss has beaten Alabama for two years in a row now, there’s no doubt that the Crimson Tide have this showdown circled in red on the calendar. The Rebels hung 43 on that vaunted Alabama defense last year, and they aren’t about to let that happen again, even with Chad Kelly back at QB for Ole Miss.

Right up there: Auburn at Alabama, Nov. 26 in Tuscaloosa. It’s the Iron Bowl, so that’s enough said. There may be tougher games in the conference, but there is no game bigger game in the state of Alabama than the Iron Bowl.

Arkansas Razorbacks

Most important game: Texas A&M vs. Arkansas, Sept. 24 in Arlington, Texas. This is the first conference game of the year for a Razorbacks team that has plenty of potential but a lot of question marks, too. It would be nice to get the conference season off to a good start against a team with comparable goals … and comparable question marks. It’s a neutral site game at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, which makes it even bigger.

Right up there: Ole Miss at Arkansas, Oct. 15 in Fayetteville. Presuming a loss to preseason No. 1 Alabama a week earlier, this game would be important to avoid a losing streak. Last year’s game at Ole Miss was epic, and more fireworks would be awesome.

Auburn Tigers

Most important game: Auburn at Alabama, Nov. 26 in Tuscaloosa. Presuming there’s no title on the line for an Auburn team that finished dead last in the SEC West a year ago, the Tigers can always make their season by beating their hated arch rivals. If another 2-6 SEC season is in the offing, it might very well be a game that coach Gus Malzahn has to win to keep his job.

Right up there: LSU at Auburn, Sept. 24 in Auburn. To make this a good season, a nice win against a powerful SEC West team in September would be big. LSU’s 45-21 beatdown a year ago wasn’t even that close, and it exposed the preseason No. 6 Tigers as a complete fraud. That can’t happen again.

LSU Tigers

Most important game: Alabama at LSU, Nov. 5 in Baton Rouge. It looks pretty likely that this game, as usual, will be for all the marbles in the SEC West race. The Tigers have struggled lately against the Crimson Tide, losing five straight. Last year was really ugly and it set off a three-game losing streak. The Tigers have a lot of stars back, and they’re hoping things will be different this year.

Right up there: LSU at Florida, Oct. 8 in Gainesville. This annual cross-division game on the road could be a real trap for the Tigers. Florida won the SEC East last year, and it’s tough to beat at home. Just ask Ole Miss a year ago. This is one the Tigers can’t let get away.

Mississippi State Bulldogs

Most important game: Mississippi State at Ole Miss, Nov. 26 in Oxford. Much like Auburn, this could be a rough season for the Bulldogs and there would be nothing better than to knock off their arch rivals in the Egg Bowl. Regardless of records, this is always a massive game.

Right up there: South Carolina at Mississippi State, Sept. 10 in Starkville. Here’s more logic to getting off to a good start and winning conference games against comparable foes. These two teams have similar issues, so starting out 1-0 in the SEC would be nice.

Ole Miss Rebels

Most important game: Alabama at Ole Miss, Sept. 17 in Oxford. The Rebels had never beaten Alabama in consecutive seasons until winning in 2014 and 2015. Three in a row would be huge, especially with all the controversy currently swirling around the Ole Miss campus. This might be the biggest game in the entire year.

Right up there: Ole Miss at LSU, Oct. 22 in Baton Rouge. If this is going to be a three-team race – and most experts think it will – then winning this road game in a hostile environment will be big.

Texas A&M Aggies

Most important game: Tennessee at Texas A&M, Oct. 8 in College Station. Presuming the Aggies can find a way to start the SEC season 3-0 with wins over Auburn, Arkansas and South Carolina, this matchup would be huge. The Vols are the favorite in the SEC East, so this is one tough crossover game. But it could be huge.

Right up there: LSU at Texas A&M, Nov. 24 in College Station. This Thanksgiving night special is the final regular season game of the year, and there’s no telling how important it will be for Kevin Sumlin’s future at A&M. The Aggies might be one of the most difficult teams to figure out this year, so this last game could be a tone-setter.
