A few months back, I was doing something that you were probably doing today. That is, scrolling through Twitter and looking for something that caught my attention.

I mean, it was the beginning of December. If you recall, that was a pretty happening time on SEC Twitter (Tennessee fans fired a coach before he even started thanks to social media). It was passionate time of the SEC calendar, which meant I didn’t have to search very long to find something interesting.

What I found had nothing to do with arguing about the coaching carousel or the Playoff field.

Instead, I stumbled upon this:

Yes, that’s a post-SEC Championship Georgia fan giving Auburn fans a wakeup call early on a Sunday morning … with a microphone … while still in his pajamas … with Gus Malzahn’s trolling line as the kicker. It’s one of the most SEC videos I’ve ever seen.

That was the perfect video and even better, it had the perfect Tweet description. #ItMightMeanTooMuch. That, of course, is a tongue-in-cheek play off the SEC’s trademarked slogan, “It Just Means More.”

From there, an idea was born.

#ItMightMeanTooMuch epitomizes everything that is SEC fandom. It’s over the top. It’s brash. It’s swagger. It’s taking something a few steps further than the casual fan. It’s being willing to wake up the entire neighborhood on a Sunday morning just to gloat about winning the SEC Championship.

It’s strapping a TV to the back of your hummer and replaying the SEC Championship for all of the world to see/smash:

Since January, #ItMightMeanTooMuch has been a regular segment on the end of every episode of The Saturday Down South Podcast (shameless plug). Now, #ItMightMeanTooMuch is going to be a weekly staple of our written content, as well.

If I learned anything this offseason, it’s that there are always examples for that hashtag to be used.

I mean, in the last week alone, Landon Collins unnecessarily was hating on Kentucky on Twitter, a Tennessee congressional candidate trolled Butch Jones’ brick-by-brick mantra in his latest campaign ad and a girl sang about why a middle school recruit with an Alabama offer should stay away from “Alabama Crimson Lies.”

Y’all. It’s the middle of July. We’re not even at fall camp yet.

That’s why I’m excited to get this weekly series going just before SEC Media Days, where there will inevitably be the Auburn fan who paints his dog or the Alabama fan who dresses up like Bear Bryant. Stuff like that goes viral and anyone searching Twitter like myself will catch it. That’s all well and good.

What I’m asking of you is to send me any examples that you have. You can reach out to me via Twitter (@cjogara) or email (cogara@saturdaydownsouth.com) and send me your best #ItMightMeanTooMuch stories. I want to tell them. My goal is to give SEC fans a platform to share their stories that you simply don’t find in any other region of the country.

And yeah, hopefully we’ll all have a laugh or two.

Maybe you have a son or daughter who wore a Tennessee shirt to school every day during the football season … and refused to let you wash it. Maybe when you were a kid you threw a tennis match and got kicked off the team because you wanted to get home and watch Alabama in the SEC Championship (that was actually my SDS Podcast co-host, Chris Marler).

Whatever you did, whether recent or ancient, I want to hear about it. Obviously the more obscure the story, the more likely you are to see it here. Remember, this isn’t “It Just Means More.” This is #ItMightMeanTooMuch.

If I get a great story sent to me, that’s what I’ll feature. If there’s something viral that’s too SEC to ignore, that’ll be my subject that given week. And if the response is overwhelming and I have more #ItMightMeanTooMuch stories than I know what to do with, I’ll feature the best of the best.

Consider this a light-hearted way to appreciate the greatness that is SEC football culture. And the best part is that you get to participate.

We might still be a month and a half away from football season, but #ItMightMeanTooMuch season is officially underway.

Let’s have some fun.
