The new Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta is a big part of SEC football, as it hosts the annual SEC Championship Game.

It also plays host to the Peach Bowl, which is in the rotation of potential College Football Playoff semifinal sites.

Now, the stadium is trying an interesting new strategy when it comes to concessions. Per a release, the stadium is now going cashless to help lower concession prices:

To further enhance the fan experience, MBS will become the first NFL and MLS stadium to implement a complete stadium-wide cashless transaction model on March 10, 2019. Transitioning to cashless transactions stadium-wide allows the stadium to move away from its whole-dollar pricing model, which was initially instituted to help speed transaction times, to further improve MBS’s already best-in-class speed of service. Additionally, going cashless produces more flexibility to adjust prices on food and beverage options more regularly, creating the opportunity to lower prices incrementally versus keeping prices static.

For example, a hot dog used to cost $2. Now, it will only cost $1.50, thanks to the cashless model of concessions.

Mercedes-Benz Stadium was already popular for its low concession prices, and this will certainly be popular for fans who won’t be inconvenienced by not being able to use cash.
