Of the nine SEC teams participating in a bowl game this season, eight are extending a streak of appearances (Missouri is the lone exception, as it did not appear in a bowl game last season.)

But, no matter if you’re a school that has the longest streak in the SEC (Georgia, 21) or the schools that have the shortest (Kentucky and South Carolina, 2), there are things you need to know about each team’s streak.

Kentucky: 2nd straight bowl game

Dec. 29 – Music City Bowl vs. Northwestern

What you need to know: Since 1984, Kentucky has won eight games in a season twice — 2006 and 2007. This season’s Kentucky team has a chance to reach that eight-win mark as well.

In both 2006 and 2007, the Wildcats entered their bowl game with a 7-5 record.

Kentucky’s record this season? 7-5.

In both 3006 and 2007, Kentucky played in the Music City Bowl.

Kentucky’s bowl game this season? The Music City Bowl.

South Carolina: 2nd straight bowl game

Jan. 1 – Outback Bowl vs. Michigan

What you need to know: Like Kentucky is doing this season, South Carolina is also playing in its most popular bowl. This will be the Gamecocks’ fifth appearance in the Outback Bowl, with their record in this bowl at 3-1.

South Carolina head coach Will Muschamp is the second Gamecocks’ head coach in program history to take the team to a bowl game in each of his first two seasons. The other was Steve Spurrier, who lost his first bowl game with the Gamecocks before winning the Liberty Bowl in his second season.

Muschamp lost in the Birmingham Bowl last season, and now has a chance to follow Spuirrier’s path with a win in the Outback Bowl.

Auburn: 5th straight bowl game

Jan. 1 – Peach Bowl vs. UCF

What you need to know: Auburn has an opportunity to pull off a pretty rare feat: Play three undefeated, top-15 opponents since Nov. 1 and hand each its first loss of the season.

Remember, Auburn defeated No. 2 Georgia on Nov. 11, knocking the Bulldogs from the ranks of the unbeaten. Two weeks later in the Iron Bowl, the Tigers upset previously undefeated and No. 1 Alabama.

Now, Auburn is facing a No. 13 UCF team that enters this game with a 12-0 record.

Mississippi State: 8th straight bowl game

Dec. 30 – Taxslayer Bowl vs. Louisville

What you need to know: Mississippi State’s eighth straight bowl appearance extends its school record, which previously was three straight under Jackie Sherrill.

The Bulldogs are also looking to add to a very good bowl record over the years. Since 1999, they are 8-2 in bowl games, including a 5-2 record during this current streak.

Texas A&M: 9th straight bowl game

Dec. 29 – Belk Bowl vs. Wake Forest

What you need to know: The Aggies have a chance to reach eight wins for the sixth straight season with a win over Wake Forest in the Belk Bowl.

In the history of the Aggies’ program, only once have they had a longer streak of consecutive eight-win seasons: a seven-season stretch from 1989-95 under head coach R.C. Slocum.

Alabama: 14th straight bowl game

Jan. 1 – Sugar Bowl vs. Clemson

What you need to know: Hard to believe Alabama is only third among SEC schools for consecutive bowl seasons.

Also hard to believe, but equally true, is the fact that the Sugar Bowl hasn’t been the most enjoyable game for the Crimson Tide in recent years. In fact, Alabama is 0-3 in the Sugar Bowl under Nick Saban, and you have to go back to 1993 to find the last time the Crimson Tide won the Sugar Bowl.

Of course, that was for the national championship, as Alabama upset Miami 34-13.

LSU: 18th straight bowl game

Jan. 1 – Citrus Bowl vs. Notre Dame

What you need to know: LSU will be playing in the same bowl game in consecutive seasons for the first time since reaching the Sugar Bowl in consecutive seasons in 1958 and 1959.

LSU will also be looking to get revenge on Notre Dame for losing to the Fighting Irish in the 2014 Music City Bowl. A win would give the Tigers their first 10-win season since 2013.

Georgia: 21st consecutive bowl game

Jan. 1 – Rose Bowl vs. Oklahoma

What you need to know: Georgia is one of seven schools to have a streak of consecutive bowl appearances reach 20 or more seasons. As it is, the Bulldogs have the third-longest active streak at 21, behind Florida State (36) and Virginia Tech (25).

This will be Georgia’s second Rose Bowl appearance, the other one coming in the 1942 season. On Jan. 1, 1943, the Bulldogs entered the Rose Bowl with just one loss. To Auburn. In November.

Sound familiar?

For what it’s worth: Georgia won that game — 9-0 over UCLA.
