As we turned the calendar from April to May, folks around the country are starting to look ahead to the season. Even preseason magazines and watch lists will be popping out soon.

That means football is close.

NFL.com recently ranked the top 50 college football players for the 2017 season, and 12 SEC players made the cut.

Most notably, of the 12 SEC players, an astounding seven of them are from Alabama. LSU also checked in with two of the top three, including the top player in the conference, Arden Key. Key still hasn’t returned to LSU in a full-time capacity either — he took a leave of absence from the team, but all indications point to Key being ready before the season.

Another interesting thing you’ll notice is there’s just one SEC East player of the 12: Florida’s Antonio Callaway. If the East is going to have a revival, the talent level is going to have to pick up, as well as the coaching.

The site ranked Houston DT Ed Oliver as the top overall player in the country, following by three quarterbacks: Louisville’s Lamar Jackson, USC’s Sam Darnold and OU’s Baker Mayfield. LSU’s Key is the only SEC player ranked in the top 10.

Here’s NFL.com’s 12 SEC players ranked among the top 50 in the country:
