Annually one of the Pacific-12 Conference’s most anticipated games, the 113th edition of the Apple Cup, the clash between the Washington Huskies and Washington State Cougars, has been postponed due to the Cougars not having the minimum number of scholarship players available.

This battle was scheduled for 10:30 p.m. ET on Friday in Pullman.

Dating to 1900, Washington owns a 74-32-6 edge in the rivalry, including seven-straight victories. The last time Washington State won was 2012, current Mississippi State Bulldogs head coach Mike Leach’s first season at the helm.

After having their season-opener against the California Golden Bears canceled, the Huskies have won both of their games this year, defeating the Oregon State Beavers, 27-21, on November 14 and the Arizona Wildcats, 44-27, on November 21.

Friday will be the second consecutive game altered for the Cougars, as their November 21 date with the Stanford Cardinal was canceled.

First-year head coach Jimmy Lake’s team has not given up on playing this weekend, however, as, according to Kyle Bonagura and Adam Rittenberg of ESPN, the school has reached out to the BYU Cougars about scheduling a game.

Ranked No. 8 in the latest Associated Press Poll, Kalani Sitake’s Cougars possess a 9-0 record and remain on the fringes of the College Football Playoff race.

Per Bonagura’s Tweet, thus far, BYU has resisted scheduling Washington, but this will be an interesting situation to monitor.
