After an all-conference SEC season, out-of-conference clashes are back in 2021. LSU vs. UCLA is one of the many SEC vs. Power 5 opening week clashes. In his recent appearance on WJOX, ESPN analyst and SEC Network analyst host shared his take that Ed Orgeron is under more pressure than Chip Kelly in the Sept. 4 Pasadena meeting.

“I’m going to say Ed Orgeron, because he has far higher expectations than Chip Kelly,” Finebaum said on “The Roundtable.”

“Chip Kelly cobbled a few wins together last year and ultimately he’s really not that high-profile…”

Kelly’s squad went 3-4 last season, finishing with back-to-back losses. Orgeron’s team, meanwhile, ended the year with wins over rivals Florida and Ole Miss. Finebaum says it is all about expectations for the national championship-winning head coach.

“You expect a run at the SEC West this year. And when you look at the schedule of LSU, that would be a stinging loss. And it’s a good schedule. I think Florida is at home — that’s always critical. The Alabama game doesn’t always matter where it is because it’s the same intensity. But I think you would — there are a bunch of people who sold stock in (Coach) O last September after Mississippi State and the Missouri debacle.”

Kelly has yet to win an out-of-conference game in three seasons as UCLA’s head coach. In Kelly’s tenure, the Bruins are 10-21 overall and 10-15 against Pac-12 opponents.
