It’s time for some expert predictions for championship week in the SEC.

Let’s take a look at projected outcomes for Saturday’s conference title game between No. 1 Alabama and No. 15 Florida, according to three media outlets — USA TODAY, Athlon Sports, and Bleacher Report.

USA TODAY COLUMNIST DAN WOLKEN

  • Alabama over Florida

Note: This particular bar in Gainesville, Fla., says it will be handing out free shots every time Florida scores Saturday night, whether it’s a touchdown or field goal. But the Gators’ offense has been heavily unreliable this season, scoring just 30 touchdowns and 18 field goals, which works out to 24.1 points per game (t-104th). Alabama is a 24-point favorite, and like many others, Dan is expecting the Tide to roll on to the Playoff unbeaten at 13-0.

ATHLON SPORTS EDITOR STEVEN LASSAN

  • Alabama 34, Florida 10

Note: Alabama hasn’t allowed a touchdown since mid-October, and its combination of defense and special teams has scored as many touchdowns as it’s allowed (12) all season. Though Steven thinks the Gators could possibly find the end zone once, he’s thinking it will be another night of sheer dominance for the top-ranked Tide D.

Every week, Steven sends me his thoughts on the SEC games. Here’s what’s on his mind for the title game:

It’s tough to make a case for Florida to win this game. I think the Gators can use their defense to hang around for a half or early through the third quarter. However, it’s tough to envision Florida’s offense putting together enough drives or making enough big plays to keep this one close. In order to pull off the upset, the Gators would need a collapse by Alabama, including a couple of turnovers or a score on defense or special teams. Even if the Crimson Tide offense struggles early, I think Nick Saban’s team pulls away in the second half for a comfortable win in the 25th SEC Championship.

BLEACHER REPORT COLUMNIST BRIAN PEDERSEN

  • Alabama 33, Florida 13

Note: This will be Alabama’s 11th SEC title game appearance; the Tide has won two in a row and three of the last four. However, this will be the 12th trip for Florida, which owns more titles (7) than any other member from either division. The two schools have played for the title eight times, with each team winning on four occasions, and Brian has no doubts that the Tide will tie UF with its seventh championship game victory.

Florida lost its most important game against a division opponent (Tennessee) and was blown out by the West’s fifth-place team (Arkansas), yet won the East by two games. And like last season, the Gators did so with the SEC’s second-worst offense. Not that having a powerhouse on offense would matter against Alabama’s stout defense, but at least it would give Florida a chance to stay close.
