Rece Davis gave his thoughts on Pat McAfee’s “villain” role on College GameDay during an appearance on the Dan Patrick Show on Monday.

McAfee joined ESPN full time as a GameDay analyst in 2022 and has since brought a new energy to the show. While many love his addition, others don’t like McAfee on the show, but he has made it clear he doesn’t care what others think.

Dan Patrick asked if McAfee has embraced the villain role, and Davis gave a candid answer on his colleague.

“He’s just himself. I’ve never met anybody like him,” Davis said. “He’s got such an innate ability to connect with people and the crowd responds to him in a way that I haven’t seen in my television career. He just understands how to do it.”

To put in perspective McAfee’s ability to connect with his audience, Davis gave the example of his wife’s aunt.

“My wife’s aunt is 88 years old,” Davis said. “She’s a loyal watcher of the show, first cause she’s a college football fan and hopefully because she tolerates me. When Pat came along, she didn’t have any idea who he was, and now I think that she likes him better than she likes me. She loves him. He has an ability to win people over who might doubt, and he’s able to connect. He’s been a fabulous teammate.”

Regardless on how fans might view him, there is no denying McAfee has brought a unique personality to College GameDay, and it’s obvious his colleagues enjoy working with him.
