We’re shaping up for quite a week in between now and next Friday’s SDS Mailbag, y’all!

It’s a huge weekend of college football, with Tennessee heading to Georgia and Alabama visiting LSU in a pair of games between teams in the top 10 of the College Football Playoff rankings.

The World Series will also be decided over the weekend. Then, on Monday, the men’s college basketball season starts, with 12 SEC squads in action!

So, without further ado, let’s dive into your questions for this week’s Mailbag:

Robert:

Twelve of the 14 SEC men’s basketball teams will be in action on opening night on Nov. 7. All of them are playing at home. Will they go 12-0? Who is most in danger of losing?

I feel pretty comfortable in predicting a 12-0 record for the SEC after opening night. But, there is one game I’m worried about.

That would involve Vanderbilt hosting Memphis. The Commodores are without star Scotty Pippen Jr., who is now in the NBA. Memphis has also had some turnover, losing its own star in Jalen Duren.

But, that’s certainly a game to keep an eye on. The only other one that might be tricky is Auburn hosting George Mason.

Former Missouri standout Kim English is the coach of the Patriots and his star is on the rise in the coaching world. I don’t think Auburn and Bruce Pearl will have much trouble with George Mason, but that is the second trickiest game on the SEC’s opening night slate.

Shane:

With the game on the line in the fourth quarter, as it is sure to be on Saturday night in Athens, who would you rather have for a do-or-die drive: Stetson Bennett or Hendon Hooker?

You really can’t go wrong with either. Bennett led Georgia to the national title last season and is having an even better offensive campaign in 2022.

But, Hooker is this year’s Heisman Trophy frontrunner, and he’s my pick in this situation. He has better playmakers around him, as Jalin Hyatt is a legitimate Heisman candidate himself.

I’ll take Hooker, simply because he takes care of the ball better (21-to-1 TD-to-INT ratio compared to Bennett’s 9-to-3 ratio). Both are capable of making plays with their legs, but Hooker is better as a runner than Bennett.

Again, this isn’t a shot at Bennett. He’s a heck of a quarterback. But, down 4 with the ball late in the fourth quarter, I’ll give the slight edge to Hooker this season.

Alan:

If Philadelphia wins the World Series, the fans are sure to go crazy and cause some damage. Which SEC city would be the craziest if its team won a national title this year in football?

As someone who lived in Philadelphia when the Eagles beat the Patriots in the Super Bowl, I can tell you that the city does indeed go crazy in support of its sports teams. That was an insane night. Walking around the city and seeing the damage was wild.

The obvious answer here is Tennessee. We’ve seen time and time again how intense that fan base is, both on social media and at Neyland Stadium. The scene on Rocky Top after beating Alabama was one for the ages. Imagine if the Vols won a national championship!

But, I also think Auburn would go big if the Tigers were to win a Playoff title. And the folks in Fayetteville could also probably cause a bit of damage by going Hog wild if the Razorbacks won a title.

Out of those teams, though, only Tennessee has a chance to actually win it all this year, so that’s going to be my answer. When in doubt, always go with Vol Nation as the craziest fan base.

@Dobbe8:

Four bowl games are played in MLB stadiums. Which of those would you most want to play in?

First, let’s start by naming those 4 bowls. There’s the Wasabi Fenway Bowl on Dec. 17 in Boston, the Guaranteed Rate Bowl at Chase Field in Phoenix on Dec. 27, the San Diego County Credit Union Holiday Bowl at Petco Park in San Diego on Dec. 28 and the Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium in New York on Dec. 29.

I’ll eliminate the Pinstripe Bowl right off the bat. This version of Yankee Stadium has all the character of a strip mall. Also, I don’t want to play in Boston in December. Bowl season is supposed to be a time to visit warmer locations, so the Fenway Bowl is out, too.

The obvious answer here is San Diego for the Holiday Bowl. Petco Park is located in the heart of downtown San Diego. It’s a beautiful city with great food and warm weather.

If I were a player, I’d guess the week leading up to the game would be filled with surfing, eating some great food and enjoying the warm weather. I’ll take that game every time.
