The ESPN college football power rankings look quite a bit different from the other two polls, but one thing seems to remain constant no matter how one judges a college football team – Alabama is the best.

The Crimson Tide sit on top of the ESPN power rankings after Week 3, but three other SEC teams, Georgia, LSU and Mississippi State, joined Alabama in the Top 10. Auburn was the No. 5 SEC team on the list at No. 13 overall.

“Alabama continues to look head and shoulders better than everyone else, becoming the first SEC team to score 50 points or more in its first three games,” ESPN senior writer Mark Schlabach wrote. “The Crimson Tide led 49-7 at the half at Ole Miss on Saturday night, their second-highest scoring total in the first half against an SEC opponent (they had 52 against Vanderbilt in 1990). The Tide scored on seven of their first nine possessions against the Rebels, who were no match for what looks like Nick Saban’s most explosive offense at Alabama.”

Schlabach admits his power rankings are filled with recency bias. With that in mind, it makes sense that Ohio State moved up to No. 2 after beating TCU in what effectively was a road game for the Buckeyes. Georgia came in at No. 3 as the second-highest ranked SEC squad.

Following its big road comeback against Auburn, LSU jumped to No. 7 on the ESPN power rankings. Mississippi State slipped into the Top 10 at No. 10.

Here’s a view of where each SEC team listed in ESPN’s power rankings Top 25 ranks. The SEC led all conferences with six teams in the Top 25, with Texas A&M rounding out the SEC squads at No. 22.
