This is an  unusual college football season for one notable reason: Some of the top players on their respective teams are players who transferred out of SEC programs.

So, which ones are having the best seasons in 2018? Here’s a look at the top five.

5. WR Jalen Hurd, Baylor (transferred from Tennessee)

This season: Hurd is fourth in the Big 12 in receptions (62) and sixth in receiving yards (837). Hurd has had two 100-yard receiving games this season, with his best game coming against Kansas State (career-high 11 receptions for 135 yards). He has also rushed for 3 touchdowns, including 1 each against Oklahoma and Texas.

At Tennessee (2014-16): A running back with the Vols, Hurd rushed for 2,638 yards, including nearly 1,300 yards and 12 TDs as a sophomore in 2015. Hurd was fourth in the SEC in rushing that season and finished his Tennessee career with 20 rushing TDs.

4. QB Shea Patterson, Michigan (transferred from Ole Miss)

This season: Patterson is the starting quarterback at one of the major contenders for the College Football Playoff. He is third in the Big Ten in completion percentage (67.0), with 17 TD passes and just 3 interceptions. The interceptions are the fewest in the Big Ten for a player with at least 100 pass attempts.

At Ole Miss (2016-17): Patterson threw for 3,139 yards over two seasons, with 23 TD passes and 12 interceptions.

3. WR Preston Williams, Colorado State (transferred from Tennessee)

This season: Williams leads the Mountain West Conference in receptions per game (7.8) and is second in the conference in receptions (78), receiving yards (1,020) and TD receptions (9).

At Tennessee (2015-16): In two seasons with the Vols, Williams had 16 receptions for 247 yards and 2 TDs.

In his two seasons at West Virginia, Grier has thrown for 300 or more yards in 17 of his 20 games, including a career-high 429 in this year’s season opener against Tennessee.

At Florida (2015): Grier appeared in six games, passing for 200 or more yards in each of his final three. He threw for 1,204 yards with 10 TDs and 3 INTs.

1. QB Kyler Murray, Oklahoma (transferred from Texas A&M)

This season: Murray has put himself into serious consideration for the Heisman Trophy, guiding one of the nation’s best offenses. Murray is one of five Power 5 quarterbacks who have thrown for 3,000 yards (3,038). He is also tied for third nationally in touchdown passes (32), and his 70.9 completion percentage is third best in the FBS. He has seven 300-yard passing games and has thrown for 3 or more touchdowns eight times in 10 games.

At Texas A&M (2015): Murray completed 59.5 percent of his passes for 686 yards, with 5 TDs and 7 interceptions. He had his best game against South Carolina, going 20-for-28 for 223 yards and a touchdown.
