Week 7 featured two Associated Press Poll Top 10 matchups in LSU-Florida and Texas A&M-Alabama. Three teams entered Saturday undefeated, and only one’s team record remains spotless. On a week with only two byes, almost every SEC team gained or lost some momentum.

Uncle Mo watched the games, checked out the polls before and after and read all the beat writer breakdowns to figure out which SEC teams have the most momentum going for them right now.

The results of the two top-10 matchups shifted momentum throughout both divisions. Let’s see where everyone stands:

  1. LSU: On the SEC’s version of “Separation Saturday,” LSU defeated Florida 35-28 and ended the day as the only undefeated team in the conference. With the Heisman candidate in the backfield, the quarterback who’s starting to develop as a passer and the magic of the Mad Hatter, it’s going to be difficult for anyone to top the Tigers.
  2. Alabama: While Florida and LSU were arguing over who’s “DBU,” Alabama’s secondary singlehandedly defeated Texas A&M with three interceptions returned for scores. The Rebels and Aggies also have only one conference loss each, but all the momentum is pointing toward the LSU-Alabama game deciding the SEC West.
  3. Florida: The Gators lost 35-28 to LSU, but not all that much has changed. UF still leads its division and the players left Death Valley with their heads held high after taking No. 6 to the wire at home. Florida still has a one-loss cushion before tiebreakers come into play in the SEC East.
  4. Georgia: The Bulldogs didn’t have a performance in their 9-6 win over Missouri, but due to losses by Florida and Kentucky, Georgia’s outlook is a lot better going into Week 8. The Bulldogs, without RB Nick Chubb, have an extra week to prepare for UF, and a win over the Gators would have everyone in the SEC East scrambling to find the tiebreaker procedure for multiple two-loss teams.
  5. Tennessee: The Volunteers were off in Week 7, but got a boost from losses by division rivals Florida, Kentucky and Missouri. UT should focus on this week’s opponent, Alabama, before getting too caught up in the SEC East standings.
  6. Texas A&M: The Aggies have fallen behind Alabama and LSU in the SEC West standings, but they can’t let the loss have a hangover effect on their performance against Mississippi. With the way the Bayou Bengals and Crimson Tide are playing, it’s looking like the UM-TAMU loser will be out of the SEC West race.
  7. Auburn: The Tigers gave up 497 yards of total offense to Kentucky, and somehow came away with an SEC road win. With two conference losses, including one to LSU, Auburn is still on the outside looking in when it comes to the SEC West, but can pick up more momentum with a win against Arkansas.
  8. Mississippi State: MSU’s only momentum gained from a 45-20 win over Louisiana Tech is getting one step closer (5-2) to bowl eligibility. With losses to two of the top-four teams in the division (LSU and Texas A&M), all the Bulldogs can do for now is take care of business against Kentucky and hope everyone else starts to beat up on each other.
  9. Ole Miss: Mississippi’s playoff chances took a serious hit in a 37-24 loss to Memphis. The good news for the Rebels is that the loss doesn’t affect their chances for winning the SEC West, where they hold an important head-to-head tiebreaker over Alabama and have yet to play division leader LSU. UM needs to win against the Aggies to stay in the hunt for a first-ever  trip to Atlanta.
  10. South Carolina: The Gamecocks defeated Vanderbilt 19-10 in the first game since Steve Spurrier’s resignation, making interim coach Shawn Elliott 1-0. Maybe the Head Ball Coach was onto something about holding South Carolina back? Or perhaps this is just the result of playing Vanderbilt.
  11. Arkansas: The Razorbacks were off and didn’t stand to gain anything from Alabama and Texas A&M, the two teams responsible for Arkansas’ conference losses, facing off. UA’s upcoming game with Auburn looked intriguing before the season started, but now has become a matchup of two teams trying to climb their way out of the bottom of the division standings.
  12. Kentucky: In their 30-27 loss to Auburn, the Wildcats lost their advantage over Georgia and Tennessee in the SEC East standings. With Florida losing, however, UK is still two games out of first place. Kentucky will need to bounce back against Mississippi State to stay alive in the SEC East race.
  13. Missouri: Mizzou has gone from the team holding the belt to the team to out of the discussion with three division losses over a four-week stretch, the latest a 9-6 defeat by Georgia. This week, the Tigers will try to turn things around against Vanderbilt, a team without an SEC win this season.
  14. Vanderbilt: The Commodores fell to 2-4 on the year and 0-3 in the conference in 19-10 loss to South Carolina. With a remaining schedule that includes No. 13 Florida, No. 15 Texas A&M and No. 21 Houston, it’s hard to see a scenario of Vanderbilt becoming bowl eligible. VU will try to get on the winning side of an SEC game against Missouri this week.
