SEC Network analyst Cole Cubelic shares takeaways for each SEC team following Week 13 action
SEC Network analyst Cole Cubelic saw the Tennessee program up close on Saturday night and was especially complimentary of QB Jarrett Garantano. He also loves “#demorangebritches.”
Cubelic was on the SEC Network call of the Vols win at Missouri as Tennessee pulled away at the end to secure a bowl berth in Jeremy Pruitt’s second season.
“To stick it out & then find that kind of success is just cool to see,” Cubelic wrote. “That meeting after UF turned things. There is so much more confidence too to bottom.”
In terms of Missouri, he doesn’t see the coaching play-calling as an issue, rather it’s QB Kelly Bryant’s lack of mobility coming off a hamstring injury.
“Play calling not the issue,” Cubelic wrote. “Drops & flags have been killer. Need backs to make a few more things happen. The offense was designed for mobility at QB this fall & w/Bryant not 100% it hurts it. Not good enough to chip thru air. Two weapons out on off hurt. Front 7 great.”
Here are his Sunday SEC takeaways from Week 13:
VANDERBILT:
Getting back in win column big at this point. Need some confidence & momentum heading into an opponent that they can compete with. Kind of the way we thought it would be all year. Vaughn effective on the ground & Lipscomb/Pinckney getting it done in air. Neal better.— Cole Cubelic (@colecubelic) November 24, 2019
TENNESSEE:
QB is just a remarkable story. To stick it out & then find that kind of success is just cool to see. That meeting after UF turned things. There is so much more confidence too to bottom. Bitulli is ridiculous. Maybe best game for Trey Smith in #demorangebritches— Cole Cubelic (@colecubelic) November 24, 2019
MISSISSIPPI STATE:
Handled their business. Hill was the dynamic player we have expected each week. Stevens efficient. Better balance. Gives them a chance for a bowl berth. Alley defenders will need a huge day to make that happen. DEs & LBs will have Hands full this week.— Cole Cubelic (@colecubelic) November 24, 2019
KENTUCKY:
Handled their business. They put up 50, averaged 8.5 yards per play & went 2 of 11 passing. Amazing to watch this group morph into a completely different offense & dominate. DL playing well past what they get credit for. That side has been impressive after losing House.— Cole Cubelic (@colecubelic) November 24, 2019
AUBURN:
Handled their business. DL disrupted & dominated early & often. Entire defense seemed to bounce back well.
Of young guys I thought 9 & 8 looked good on def, 56/65 on off did nice things. Loved the Schwartz stuff early. Saw some new adds on offense. Interesting plan.— Cole Cubelic (@colecubelic) November 24, 2019
We do it each week, my Sunday SEC takeaways…
ALABAMA:
Handled their business. QB poised & confident. Solid plan to get him comfy w/some high risk stuff too. Defense found the ball often. DL very different w/o star power. Of young guys, thought 95 def & 55/71 off looked great— Cole Cubelic (@colecubelic) November 24, 2019
ARKANSAS:
Found some shot plays early. Just couldn’t stay consistent. Let a few opportunities to move the chains get away early. Boyd has been electric when he’s in. Energy seemed to wear off after half. The skill has a chance to be solid next year. OL has hands full this week.— Cole Cubelic (@colecubelic) November 24, 2019
GEORGIA:
Defense showed up. Lights out vs run. 52 having Big year. Edge defenders have been great for weeks. RB & OL were mostly good. Tougher DL than most acknowledge. Have to get the QB going a little more. The big plays were there. Missed a few. Will need those shots in ATL.— Cole Cubelic (@colecubelic) November 24, 2019
MISSOURI:
Play calling not the issue. Drops & flags have been killer. Need backs to make a few more things happen. The offense was designed for mobility at QB this fall & w/Bryant not 100% it hurts it. Not good enough to chip thru air. Two weapons out on off hurt. Front 7 great— Cole Cubelic (@colecubelic) November 24, 2019
TEXAS A&M:
Run game wasn’t going to be there. Just had to wonder when Jimbo would let Kellen go. QB & receivers help put them in position. OL struggled with 1 on 1’s. Limited explosive plays early. Flags, turnover & 3rd down not sufficient but holding to FGs kept them in it.— Cole Cubelic (@colecubelic) November 24, 2019
LSU:
Records on records. This scheme just continues to impress. The way they use the RBs & TEs causes so much confusion. Moss prob most under appreciated guy in the SEC. Defense gave up a few big ones early but settled in. Back end will get a big test this week. Love O postgame— Cole Cubelic (@colecubelic) November 24, 2019
