SEC fans tuning into the opening weekend of NFL games this week might sit up and take notice of the starting wide receivers for the Las Vegas Raiders against the Carolina Panthers.

Tashan Reed of The Athletic reported that former Alabama star Henry Ruggs III and former South Carolina star Bryan Edwards would split out wide on the first snap for the Las Vegas franchise. This is not a complete surprise after the team lost Tyrell Williams for the season, and traded Lynn Bowden Jr. to the Miami Dolphins.

Ruggs was drafted in the first round, while Edwards went to the Raiders in the third round of the spring NFL Draft.

QB Derek Carr explained what he sees in them to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

“These guys love football, so in pads, not in pads, they look the same,” Raiders quarterback Derek Carr said. “Usually when we put pads on, there is a big discrepancy, a big difference in some of these young guys to where you’re like, ‘Oh, he’s not going to make the team or play long.’ And sometimes, they end up not playing long. But with these guys, they’re football players.

Former Clemson star Hunter Renfrow knows what the two rookies are going through right now.

“It has been so impressive just to watch them play,” Renfrow said. “Last year, I was messing up a route or just a concept every other play. You barely have any of that with them. Just the intelligence that they’re bringing.”
