The 2017 SEC football season promises to be its usual thrill-ride from the opening kickoff to the final whistle. And here’s a little something extra to keep an eye on as the upcoming season unfolds.

Here are some of the SEC all-time records that could be broken this season:

Points – Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the SEC all-time record for points scored is in jeopardy. Georgia’s Blair Walsh holds the record with 412 points scored between 2008-11. But Auburn kicker Daniel Carlson could very easily hold that spot by the time January rolls around. Carlson has 354 points and is back for one more season. The senior led the SEC last season in scoring with 134 points. He needs less than half of that this year to break the record.

Receptions – The SEC all-time receptions leader is Vanderbilt’s Jordan Matthews with 262, set from 2010-13. And though it would take some doing, Texas A&M’s Christian Kirk could reach that plateau. He’d need a monster season, one that would probably have to lead the nation, but if anyone can do it, Kirk can. He led the SEC last season with 83 receptions, building his career total to 163 coming into this, his junior year, which will probably be his last at A&M before turning pro. He needs exactly 100 pass receptions to break the record.

Interception return touchdowns – This could get interesting as well. Tennessee’s Jackie Walker holds the SEC all-time record for interceptions returned for touchdowns with five, set from 1969-71. Alabama’s Minkah Fitzpatrick already has four in two seasons. But this year will probably be his last with the Crimson Tide before testing the waters of the NFL draft. Fitzpatrick has returned two interceptions for touchdowns in each of his first two seasons at Alabama. If he can keep pace in 2017, he’ll have the record.

Kickoff return touchdowns – Tennessee’s Evan Berry is already tied for the SEC all-time record with four kickoff returns for touchdowns. If he is fully recovered from a knee injury that sidelined him late last season, he could set himself apart from a group of five players who are tied for the SEC all-time mark. That noteworthy group includes Willie Gault (Tennessee), Felix Jones (Arkansas), Brandon Boykin (Georgia) and Andre Debose (Florida).

Punt return touchdowns – Catching passes isn’t all Kirk does for Texas A&M. The versatile standout is also within range of setting the SEC all-time record for punt returns for touchdowns. Kirk led the SEC last season, returning three punts for touchdowns. He was second in the conference the previous season, returning two punts to the house. It will take that kind of effort to break the SEC all-time record, which is currently held by Alabama’s Javier Arenas, who from 2006-09 returned seven punts for touchdowns.

Field goals made – Not surprising that a kicker going for the SEC all-time scoring title would also be in the running to claim the record for field goals made in a career. That’s what Carlson is going after in 2017. The senior has 69 made field goals heading into his final season. The SEC record is 87, accomplished by Georgia’s Billy Bennett from 2000-03. Considering Carlson led the SEC last season with 28 successful field goal attempts, setting the record appears to be a foregone conclusion.

Field goal attempts – Again, it’s Carlson looking to rewrite the record books. In three seasons at Auburn he has attempted 83 field goals. That puts him 28 attempts shy of the all-time SEC record of 111 set by Alabama’s Leigh Tiffin from 2006-09. Carlson led the SEC last season with 32 field goal attempts. So the all-time record is certainly within Carlson’s range.
