Leave it to Mike Leach to draw up a 65-yard onside kick that results in a touchdown for his team.

OK, so he didn’t actually draw it up that way, but that’s what happened when Washington State kicked off to Arizona in the first half of Saturday’s rout of Arizona.

As you can see in the video below, the low line-drive kick skips past the Arizona returner. Since it’s a live ball, it gets batted around until the Cougars pounce on it in the end zone:

That was a huge play for Washington State’s momentum, and the Cougars went on to crush the Wildcats 69-28 to remain in the mix for a College Football Playoff berth.

Meanwhile, it was a tough loss for Kevin Sumlin’s crew, who now needs a win over Arizona State next weekend just to clinch a bowl berth.
