Through four weeks of the 2015 season, there are 12 conference games in the books.

It only took a dozen games to leave us with just five teams remaining unbeaten in conference play entering Week 5, with the guarantee that we’ll drop to four or less on Saturday thanks to a match-up between Ole Miss (4-0, 2-0 SEC) and Florida (4-0, 2-0 SEC).

There are five conference games on the slate this week, with only Auburn, LSU, Kentucky and Vanderbilt playing out-of-league games on Saturday.

Here are some things we can learn about the SEC championship picture from those games:

  • Alabama at Georgia: This is the game that many people had circled on their calendars as the most important game of the SEC regular season. The Bulldogs and Crimson Tide were preseason favorites to win their divisions. And while Alabama has a loss to Ole Miss, there is still a sense that these two teams should be hanging around near the top of the standings at the end of the season. Alabama’s loss makes it the team with the most to lose in this game, as a second conference loss in as many tries creates a tough row to hoe for the remaining six games in a stacked division. Georgia, on the other hand, could sustain a loss here and still be in the thick of the SEC East race thanks to conference losses by five East teams in the opening month of the season.
  • Ole Miss at Florida: There were all kinds of preseason predictions made about a pair of 4-0 teams meeting in SEC play in Week 5. Not many of them included Ole Miss and Florida. But here we are, looking at a pair of Top 25 teams meeting in what could turn out to be one of the most impactful games of the conference season. At this moment in time, both of these teams own at least a share of their division lead. That will obviously change based on the outcome of this game. The Rebels are favored, and won the last time they played in The Swamp back in 2008, but something to keep in mind about this series is that the underdog has won in three of the last four meetings.
  • Mississippi State at Texas A&M: A lot of attention will be paid to the two games above this one on the list, but truthfully this one could also have a significant impact on who emerges from the SEC West. The Aggies are unbeaten on the season (4-0, 1-0 SEC), and have one divisional win under their belts after beating Arkansas in overtime last week. A win here helps them maintain at least a share of the first-place spot going into Week 6. Mississippi State collected a road conference win at Auburn last week, evening the Bulldogs SEC record at 1-1. A win against the Aggies would set Mississippi State up nicely for a run to get back into the discussion for the division crown.
  • Arkansas at Tennessee: You’d be hard-pressed to two fan bases more down in the dumps to put in the stadium for this week’s contest. Both teams are in a rough patch filled with heartbreaking losses. As far as the SEC championship picture is concerned, this one likely has more impact on the East than the West. Tennessee was picked to finished second in the division, and no matter how disappointing last week’s loss at Florida was, the Vols are still just 0-1 in SEC play. A win here goes a long way in reviving confidence in a chance at a conference championship appearance. Along the same lines, the Razorbacks are 1-3 overall, but just 0-1 in SEC play. They could conceivably jump back into the SEC West discussion with a win here.
  • South Carolina at Missouri: The back-to-back SEC East champions are on the ropes after a road loss at Kentucky last week got the Tigers off to a 0-1 start in conference play. Can Steve Spurrier and the Gamecocks ride in to town and deliver what could be a knockout punch? With two losses of its own in SEC play through two games, South Carolina is likely relegated to playing the role of spoiler in the SEC East race this season.
