Dak Prescott was with the Bulldogs the last time Mississippi State visited Auburn in 2013. Despite Prescott’s 213 passing yards and 133 rushing yards and two touchdowns, the Bulldogs lost 24-20 on The Plains.

A lot has changed since that matchup. Heck, a lot has changed this week at Auburn, which just adds intrigue to Saturday night’s game. Here is what a few media outlets are saying about the conference’s biggest matchup of the week:

  1. Dak Prescott is confident about facing Auburn’s defense. He has every reason to be. Check out where Auburn ranks in the SEC in the following categories: total defense (13th out of 14 teams), rushing defense (last) and scoring defense (13th). Based on those numbers, Prescott’s confidence is totally justified.
  2. The Bulldogs are sticking to their game plan despite the Tigers’ change at quarterback. They have no reason to change what they have already done. Mississippi State (2-1) believes it should be 3-0, its quarterback situation is stable and its defense has clearly been better than Auburn’s has been so far. We completely agree with Dan Mullen’s approach this week.
  3. Jeremy Johnson lost confidence, Gus Malzahn says. So apparently a starting job isn’t the only thing that the Auburn quarterback has lost, according to the Tigers coach. Preseason hype for Johnson was so great that Bovada gave him and Georgia’s Nick Chubb the same Heisman odds at 12-1. What are the odds that Sean White makes Auburn fans forget about Johnson? We find out starting on Saturday night.
  4. Seven years ago, Auburn beat Mississippi State, 3-2. Something tells me this type of final score has no chance of repeating itself when you consider how bad Auburn’s defense has been.
  5. Mississippi State travels to Auburn with its back against the wall. You could probably say that about both teams since they face the prospect of an 0-2 start in SEC play.
