Utah football has lost its starting quarterback after the 33-31 triple overtime loss to San Diego State, per ESPN.

Charlie Brewer, who spent the last 4 seasons at Baylor, has left the Utes football program and entered the transfer portal.

He was pulled after struggling against the Aztecs, going 14 for 26 with 104 yards passing and an interception.

Brewer was replaced by Texas transfer Cam Rising. Rising finished the game with 153 yards passing and 3 touchdowns.

Following the loss, Rising was named the starting quarterback on the Utes depth chart.

Since Brewer is entering the portal this early in the season, he can still play for another team next year if he decides to use his redshirt.

Brewer compiled 484 yards passing with 3 touchdowns and 3 interceptions in three games as the starter for the Utes.

The Utes are currently 1-2 after back-to-back losses to BYU and San Diego State.

“Charlie has decided to move on, and we wish him the best,” said Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham following the announcement.
