USC’s head coaching search is only a couple days old, but there apparently already is mutual interest with one sitting Power 5 coach.

That news comes from radio host Dan Patrick, who said on his program on Wednesday that it exists between Penn State’s James Franklin, and USC. Patrick played some sound from Franklin at Tuesday’s press conference where he said he “can’t stand any form of distraction,” and he would discuss the issue with his team’s leadership council.

“That’s a non-denial, denial,” Patrick said.

The Nittany Lions play host to Auburn this week.

“By all accounts he’s done a nice job there, you know it’s the next challenge,” Patrick said. “Maybe that’s the case, I don’t know. But there’s going to be a lot of names you’re going to hear. There may even be changes in the power structure at USC. … There’s a lot going on here for a program that hasn’t been relevant for quite some time.”
