Tennessee may not have had any luck getting players drafted in the last two NFL drafts but that doesn’t mean the league isn’t already full of former Volunteers.

The latest example of that comes from former Volunteer defensive standout and NFL vet Parys Haralson, who spent nines seasons in the league – six with the San Francisco 49ers and three with the New Orleans Saints. Haralson will be making a return to San Fran, as the Niners announced his hire as the team’s Director of Player Engagement:

“Parys is a young man who represented himself and our organization very well, both on and off the field,” San Francisco general manager Trent Baalke said on the Niners’ official website. “Less than two years removed from the game, Parys has great knowledge of what players experience in today’s NFL and what is needed for them to be successful in their professional and personal lives. We look forward to our team benefitting from his insight and support.”

Haralson’s role with the Niners will include assisting players in transitioning in and out of professional football as well as life skills development, financial education, post career and occupational development, continued education and degree completion.

In 2004 and 2005, Haralson was named All-SEC Second Team after coming off the bench the previous two seasons. The former defensive end left UT as the school’s fifth leading sack artist after racking up 21 sacks. In his NFL career, Haralson registered 267 tackles, 28 sacks and three forced fumbles.
