When Vanderbilt plays Missouri on Saturday, there will be a familiar voice in the booth calling the game.

Former Vanderbilt head coach Derek Mason will be on the call for SEC Network as both teams look to pick up their first SEC win. Mason was Vanderbilt’s head coach from 2014 to 2020. He went on to hold defensive coordinator positions at Auburn and Oklahoma State before pursuing a career in media.

Current Commodore’s head coach Clark Lea is excited to have Mason in the booth this weekend, he explained during the SEC coaches teleconference on Wednesday.

“I know Coach (Mason) as a peer. I’ve interacted with him in the past a number of times,” Lea said. “I have a ton of respect for him. Really, I’ve always enjoyed our visit together, so it’ll be great to have him. So glad that he is still engaged with the game, I think he has so much to offer the game and certainly in that role he brings a level of expertise and perspective only a former head coach can bring. And also I have a lot of respect for him too because he’s a defensive guy like me. I appreciate that about him.”

Last season, Missouri narrowly defeated Vanderbilt 17-14. The Tigers come into this year’s game undefeated and looking to stay that way. Meanwhile, Vanderbilt will be looking for a signature win after a rocky start to the season.
