As Vanderbilt prepares to take on the No. 23 Missouri Tigers in SEC play in Week 5, the status of quarterback AJ Swann remains up in the air.

Commodores head coach Clark Lea gave an update on Swann when he met with reporters on Monday, indicating that a decision had not yet been made on if the signal-caller would play because of an arm strain.

“To be determined,” Lea responded when asked about Swann. “He’s got an arm strain and is working through that. We have to play better at that position. Too early to tell what that might look like on Saturday.”

To this point in the season, Swann has completed 97-of-173 passes for (53.8%) for 1,290 yards with 11 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. He finished out last season with a 58.1% completion rate, 1,274 yards, 10 touchdowns and 2 interceptions.

In his most recent showing, the 45-28 loss to the Kentucky Wildcats, Swann struggled as he went 16-of-40 passing for 189 yards. He did not throw a touchdown pass but was outdone by the defense as he tossed 3 interceptions into the arms of Wildcats defenders.

Swann was replaced by senior quarterback Ken Seals when he sustained the injury late in the 4th quarter.

Vanderbilt and Mizzou are set to kick off at 3 p.m. CT on Saturday in Nashville, Tennessee. Mizzou enters as a heavy favorite in the midst of what’s been an exciting season filled with positives for Eli Drinkwitz’s team so far.
