Clark Lea and Vanderbilt football played Hawai’i in Honolulu last season. Before Saturday’s game, Lea shared a message for those affected by the recent tragedy in Maui.

The Vanderbilt HC talked about how moved he and his players were by their time in Hawai’i last season.

To help those affected by the recent events, Lea announced that Vanderbilt football will be donating a portion to ticket sales from the season opener to help the Maui victims.

“As we watched the tragedy on Maui unfold, our hearts break for those who have lost loved ones and livelihoods. Our prayers are with you. As we prepare to once again face the Rainbow Warriors, we know Coach Chang and his team will provide a rallying point for the people of Hawai’i. To show our support, we will be donating a portion of ticket sales from out season opener to the Hawai’i Community Foundation’s Maui Strong Fund.”

Moments like this are why so many people around the country love college football. What a great way for the Commodores to help the Maui community. This season’s Hawai’i game will be played in Nashville, Tennessee.

Kickoff for Vanderbilt’s 2023 season opener will be at 7:30 p.m. ET on SEC Network.
