Vanderbilt’s season is off to a rocky start. The Commodores, missing 2 key players out with injury, lost Wednesday night at home to VCU 48-37. It was the fewest points the Commodores had scored in a game in over a decade.

In the loss, one of the bright spots of the 2021 class, Peyton Daniels, played just 11 minutes. That was after seeing just 12 minutes in the season-opener against Alabama State and 14 minutes against Texas State, both double-digit Vanderbilt wins.

On Friday, first reported by On3’s Matt Zenitz, Daniels put his name in the transfer portal.

Daniels joined the team in June after signing in the 2021 class. He was committed to Vanderbilt for over a year. The 3-star combo guard from Atlanta rated as the No. 11 prospect in the state of Georgia for his class and a top-200 play in the 247Sports Composite.

According to 247Sports’ Robbie Weinstein, Daniels a brief period of time away from the team for disciplinary reasons during camp, but returned prior to the start of the regular season.

At 6-foot-2, 185 pounds, Daniels had offers to Alabama, Georgia, Ole Miss, and others. He averaged 22.5 points a game during his junior season of high school ball and once had a 43-point game in 2019.

Through his first 3 games of college ball, though, Daniels averaged just 3 points and shot 3-for-13 from the field (2-for-8 from 3-point range).

Vanderbilt is in action again on Saturday against Winthrop, with tip-off slated for 7 p.m. ET.
