Vanderbilt basketball suffered its first loss of the 2021-22 season Wednesday night thanks to a rough shooting night. The Commodores fell at home 48-37 to the VCU Rams.

Robbie Weinstein of 247Sports notes that it is Vandy basketball’s worst offensive performance since a 2014 loss to Tennessee.

The Commodores made just 12-of-53 (22.6 percent) field-goal attempts from the floor. Jordan Wright was responsible for 6 buckets, including a 3-pointer. Wright, who also made 2-of-2 free throws, led all scorers in the game with 15 points.

VCU didn’t shoot the lights out, either. The Rams were 17-of-52 (32.7 percent) from the floor. The Commodores were 4.5-point favorites heading into the game, per ESPN.

Vanderbilt is now 2-1 on the season. The Dores will look to bounce back against Winthrop on Saturday.
