Zaire Jones’ season is over.

Vanderbilt suspended its redshirt sophomore safety for the rest of the season for violating the student conduct policy, coach Derek Mason said during his Tuesday press conference. Mason expects Jones, who was also suspended the first two games of the year after being charged with assault, to return to the team once the season is over.

“Zaire will not be with us for the remainder of the season,” Mason told reporters (via The Tennessean). “Obviously, that’s unfortunate for us. We will see Zaire in January.”

Jones’ original suspension stemmed from an Aug. 23 incident that was eventually reduced to a misdemeanor reckless endangerment. According to Vanderbilt campus police, Jones’ car bumped into an off-duty officer’s knee while he was trying to drive around a traffic barricade.

This season, Jones had 13 total tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, two fumble recoveries and one pass breakup.
