If you want to complain about Verne Lundquist and Gary Danielson, basketball Hall of Famer Charles Barkley is the wrong man with which to voice your displeasure.

Barkley loves him some Uncle Verne.

Barkley was making an appearance on ESPN’s Mike & Mike Show in advance of Monday’s NCAA men’s basketball national championship game when the topic of television broadcasts came up, prompting the former Auburn star to offer his take on the SEC on CBS crew that SEC football fans love to hate.

Mike Greenberg was plugging the simulcast options for the basketball championship game, which offer fans the ability to listen to play-by-play calls that may be slanted towards one team over the other, when Barkley interrupted:

“That’s the stupidest things in the world,” Barkley interjected. “Who wants to listen to a slanted broadcasts where they only say nice things about your team? I want to watch a game where I can trust the announcers.

“That reminds me of a thing that’s really funny. I’m from Alabama, and when I’m home my friends are always telling me that they hate Verne Lundquist and Gary Danielson.”

He said Alabama and Auburn fans alike are always telling him that the pair is biased against their team.

“First of all, if you don’t like Verne there’s something wrong with you,” Barkley continued.  “Verne is nicest man in the world.”

Barkley, who covered basketball for Turner Sports, said he wants to get the message out once and for all that national broadcasters simply don’t care which team wins the games.

“Please tell fans once and for all– We don’t care who wins. We really don’t. We just want to do our job. It drives me crazy. Listen, we on television don’t care who wins.”
