Vanderbilt linebacker Zach Cunningham isn’t exactly a household name throughout the nation.

With that said, there’s no question he’s one of the top defenders in the entire country — and has proven this the past three years with his exceptional play.

As a redshirt freshman, the 6-foot-4 athlete became a starter at middle linebacker — averaging more than 8 tackles per game. The following season, he became a first-team All-SEC performer. Cunningham accrued 103 total tackles and 16.5 tackles-for-loss. He ranked among the league leaders in both of these categories — in addition to forced fumbles and fumble recoveries.

To top it off, Cunningham registered an eye-popping 125 tackles this past season. Not only was he a first-team all-conference performer, but he was also recognized as a first-team All-American.

One would assume Cunningham is destined for the first round in this April’s NFL Draft. However, one scout doesn’t share the same opinion:

The take on “making more tackles” is a curious one — considering he led arguably the best conference in the total tackles category. Cunningham — a redshirt junior — has the ability to come back to school should he choose.

Based upon his resume, it would be difficult to envision the Alabama native returning for another season on the collegiate level.
