The SEC East is in an eight-year drought when it comes to winning the conference championship. After Tim Tebow led Florida to an SEC Championship Game victory in 2008, Alabama, Auburn and LSU have all taken care of business in the Georgia Dome. Regular season cross-division matchups have also gone the SEC West’s way during the division’s dominance.

A popular offseason topic the past few years has been whether the SEC East has a team which can reclaim the conference crown. If 2017 is the season for the SEC East’s return to glory, it will take superior coaching to cancel out a giant talent divide, at least according to Athlon Sports. The publication recently ranked the top 25 players in the SEC this spring, and the SEC West dominates.

Here are some noteworthy items from the list:

  • No. 1 overall goes to Alabama DB Minkah Fitzpatrick.
  • The top 11 are exclusively players from Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, LSU and Texas A&M.
  • The first SEC East player on the list is Georgia RB Nick Chubb at No. 12, the only representative of the division in the top 17.
  • The final tally is 20 players from the SEC West and five from the SEC East.
  • No player from Florida or Tennessee makes the top 25.
