College football’s biggest game is following in the footsteps of the NFL’s big game, with a twist.

According to a report by the Associated Press’ Ralph D. Russo, the upcoming College Football Playoff championship game will feature a halftime concert similar to what’s seen at the Super Bowl, as in a marquee performer a la Lady Gaga, The Who, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Paul McCartney, etc. The twist, however, is that the halftime show will be performed outside the stadium while marching bands will perform on the field.

“Traditions are an important part of college football,” CFP Executive Director Bill Hancock said in a statement to the AP. “This rich culture includes marching bands performing at halftime.”

For next year’s game in Atlanta at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the halftime show will take place at nearby Centennial Olympic Park. Fans without ticket to the game can watch the game and the concert for free at the park.

“This will be a win-win, enhancing the viewing experience for a broad section of fans at home and in the park, while maintaining the culture of the game inside the stadium,” Hancock said.

ESPN, which holds the rights to the CFP, will broadcast the concert on the main channel will marching bands will be shown on another ESPN affiliate.
