Former Auburn coach Pat Dye, who was the head coach of the Tigers from 1981-92, has been in the news a lot lately.

He went on the Paul Finebaum Show recently and argued that Auburn should be in the SEC East and Mizzou should be in the SEC West, which prompted plenty of discussion among SEC fans and media.

However, while appearing again on Finebaum’s show on Tuesday, Dye said something perhaps even more controversial, claiming Auburn “could play football for another 500 years and not catch up to Alabama’s tradition,” per a tweet from Finebaum:

Granted, Alabama holds an impressive 16-2 edge when it comes to claimed national championships, but the Tigers have a strong tradition, too.

Auburn has only won two Iron Bowl games since 2008, but they were two of the most exciting games in recent college football history — including the Pick-Six game in 2013.
