SEC Media Days have been held in Hoover, Alabama, since 1985, but there were some rumblings earlier this year that they could be moved to a bigger city.

On Friday afternoon, that news was confirmed. The event will be heading to Atlanta next year.

Per a release from the SEC, conference commissioner Greg Sankey said Atlanta makes a lot of sense for the event since it already hosts so many big-time SEC events:

“SEC Football Media Days is a signature event for our conference and we are pleased the city of Atlanta will host this kickoff to the 2018 college football season,” said SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey.  “SEC Football Media Days is now added to Atlanta’s inventory of great events, which includes the annual SEC Football Championship Game and this season’s College Football Playoff Championship Game. We are looking forward to building an exciting week next July to feature our student-athletes and coaches.”

Sankey added that the event would return to Hoover in 2019, which is good news for those in the area that enjoyed hosting SEC Media Days.

Where it goes from there remains to be seen, but cities like Nashville and St. Louis, among others, could work their way into the mix in the future.
