The 2018 recruiting cycle is now mostly finished, and there were some big shakeups in the SEC.

For instance, the Alabama Crimson Tide finished without the SEC’s No. 1 recruiting class for the first time since 2010 (that was also the last time the Tide weren’t No. 1 nationally).

Looking back, it’s clear that letting top in-state talent get away hurt Nick Saban’s squad, as Gus Malzahn and the Auburn Tigers signed four of the state’s top-10 players.

In fact, according to the 247Sports composite rankings, Auburn, Stanford and Texas A&M all landed more Alabama top-10 players than the Crimson Tide did. Here’s a look at where each of the state’s 10 best players signed:

  1. Justyn Ross, WR — Clemson
  2. Jalyn Armour-Davis, CB — Alabama
  3. Coynis Miller, DT — Auburn
  4. Harold Joiner, RB — Auburn
  5. Seth Williams, WR — Auburn
  6. Asa Martin, RB — Auburn
  7. Jack West, QB — Stanford
  8. Tank Jenkins, OL — Texas A&M
  9. Andres Fox, DE — Stanford
  10. James Foster, QB — Texas A&M

Alabama already has one commitment from the No. 2 player in the state for the 2019 class, but Auburn already has two top-10 in-state players.

The Crimson Tide are in an unusual spot where they’re playing catchup, and it’ll be interesting to see how they respond to a disappointing (for them) 2018 class.
