This time last year, many in the national media were trying to sell the fact that Greg Schiano would be a good hire for Tennessee — some even at the behest of the school’s former AD John Currie. :-)

That didn’t go over very well for them.

In the end, Tennessee fans got what they wanted and that was Schiano sent back up to Ohio State. Following those wild events, many of those same media members chastised Vol Nation for their actions and both Urban Meyer and Gene Smith showed support for Schiano to get the job in Knoxville.

Months later, both men would be suspended by Ohio State for their conduct relating back to assistant coach, Zach Smith.

Now that Ohio State has announced Meyer won’t be returning in 2019 and that offensive coordinator Ryan Day will be taking over, many of the Tennessee faithful are wondering why the great defensive mind that is Schiano isn’t getting the job. He’s been on staff longer than Day, and he has head coaching experience and, most importantly, he was the support of the former coach and current AD.

Once again, the true value of that support has been shown as it appears Schiano wasn’t even given a look at the head job in Columbus.
