With less than three weeks remaining until National Signing Day arrives, SEC programs with spots remaining in their 2019 recruiting classes are running out of time to fill those spots. Now that college football features the early signing period, many programs are left to battle it out in recruiting for a smaller pool of unsigned top prospects.

That’s exactly what is going on in Dyersburg, Tenn., at the moment as Arkansas, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Auburn are all pursuing Dyersburg linebacker, Chris Russell. In fact, coaches from the Razorbacks and Volunteers coaching staffs visited Dyersburg High School on Wednesday to visit with Russell.

Russell is coming off an official visit to College Station last weekend and has official visits with Arkansas and Tennessee lined up heading into National Signing Day.

While the 6-foot-1, 228-pound Russell may only be rated as a three-star prospect at this time, his recruitment didn’t pick up until his senior season of high school. Once he was discovered by more and more programs, several SEC programs have been eager to recruit him. One look at his high school highlight reel and you’ll see a dynamic defender featuring a rare blend of size, speed and playmaking ability.

Before his recruitment started to heat up, Russell was committed to play football for Memphis.

SEC programs clearly see the same traits in Russell and have made the Dyersburg product a high priority during the current contact period.

Here is a picture of Tennessee defensive coordinator Kevin Sherrer visiting with Russell, shared by Dyersburg coach Bart Stowe on Twitter:

Not to be outdone, Arkansas sent a bevy of coaches to visit Russell on Wednesday, including Chad Morris, defensive coordinator John Chavis and defensive ends coach Steve Caldwell.
