Kyler Murray made his decision official this week, as the reigning Heisman Trophy winner is all in on football. The decision wasn’t necessarily a surprise to most but that doesn’t mean the first round pick of the Oakland A’s didn’t astonish some by his decision to pursue the NFL over Major League Baseball.

In his only season as a starter in Norman, Murray led Oklahoma to the Big 12 Championship and a Playoff berth in the Orange Bowl. The 2018 Heisman Trophy winner gave Alabama a run for its money in the national semifinal before losing 45-34 in Miami but Murray looked the part in his team’s loss to the then No. 1-ranked Crimson Tide defense.

During his junior season, Murray passed for 4,361 yards and 42 touchdowns with only seven interceptions and rushed for another 1,001 yards and 12 scores. As gaudy as those stats may be, not everyone is sold on the Oklahoma quarterback choosing football over baseball.

“I think he’s a heck of a quarterback, we can all agree. He’s electric, he’s fun to watch. He has tools that translate to the NFL, his arm strength, his ability to make plays but — and this is coming from a quarterback that’s six foot and has played in the league, he is going to have difficulties,” Aaron Murray said during a recent appearance on ESPNU SiriusXM radio. “He is not a big kid at all. He’s 5-9, 5-10, I’ll be really interested to see what he measures in at the NFL Combine.”

Should Murray have chosen baseball over football? That appears to be the advice the former Georgia quarterback would have given Murray.
