R.J. Hampton had his choice of any college in America to attend before likely being a top pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. Instead of taking the traditional route, Hampton will attempt to forge his own path and show elite prospect they don’t have to go to college for one season to make it to the NBA.

During a Tuesday morning appearance on ESPN’s morning show “Get Up,” Hampton announced he plans to play professionally in Australia with the New Zealand Breakers. It’s worth noting that Hampton had the grades to get into college but apparently has no interest in being a one-and-done college player.

“My dream has never been to play college basketball, my dream is to get to the next level and play in the NBA,” Hampton said on making his decision. “I think this is the best route for me, to live like a pro and play with grown men every day and not have to juggle books and basketball, just focus on my main goal.”

Hampton had been considering Kansas, Memphis and Texas Tech before making this decision.
