The College Football Playoff selection committee’s rankings are the only rankings that actually matter, but fans still soak up the rankings put out on a weekly basis by various publications and pundits.

Mark Schlabach has updated ESPN’s Power Rankings after the Week 13 games. Five SEC teams make Schlabach’s Top 25:

  • No. 2 LSU
  • No. 4 Georgia
  • No. 6 Alabama
  • No. 8 Florida
  • No. 19 Auburn

With little debate about which four teams are currently “in,” the rankings of most interest involve Alabama. In this case, Schlabach has Utah ahead of the Crimson Tide at No. 5 and Oklahoma right behind UA at No. 7.

Utah is 10-1 and will be playing for a Pac-12 Championship Game berth in Week 14. If the Utes beat Colorado, they will play Oregon in the conference championship game. If they lose, USC will be going instead.

Oklahoma is 10-1 and set for a rematch with Baylor in the Big 12 Championship Game. The Sooners will first face rival Oklahoma State in the regular-season finale. OSU was No. 21 in the most recent CFP rankings.
