Almost every fan base has now endured at least half of their team’s season. The year has clearly taken a toll on coaches and players (Darth Vader answered questions 2 hours after an on-field fisticuff), so one can only imagine how the psyche of a passionate observer may be.

Here’s how every SEC fan base should be feeling entering Week 7:

Alabama

The only seeds of doubt about the Tide’s ability to replace Jaylen Waddle were quickly answered. Why ask John Metchie or Slade Bolden to step up when DeVonta Smith can simply carry the load of 2 All-American receivers. Otherwise, hang tight Tide fans. December and January only grow closer.

Arkansas

It’s easy to be a little disappointed with a 2-3 record, but 2 months ago, how many Hog fans would have signed up for just an 11-point loss to No. 8 Texas A&M? The Sam Pittman hire was not popular with a lot of media pundits, but clearly they were wrong. Now Pittman has a real chance to put some head coaches and coordinators on the hot seat in the next 3 weeks.

Auburn

Quick update to the Bo Power Ranking:

  1. Bo Nix
  2. Bo Jackson
  3. Bo Pelini

Of course Bo Jackson belongs on top, but he never had the privilege of playing against a Bo Pelini defense, otherwise he’d still be running in the open field. The LSU defense has a way of making Chad Morris all of a sudden look like a candidate for the Broyles Award. With a big win rolling into the bye week, it’s officially contract extension season.

Florida

Has Dan Mullen officially cracked? The WWE is big in Florida, but have we ever seen a full heel turn quite like Mullen? The Gators’ defense finally looked like a unit worthy of SEC Championship contention and one that at least can stop Stetson Bennett, but fans need to hope that Mullen’s weird bravado doesn’t end up being the flaw in the Death Star that blows up Florida’s chances in the Cocktail Party.

Georgia

The bar was just inches off the ground for Stetson Bennett to out-gun Kentucky’s passing game and he barely managed to clip it. Forget Florida for a second. Do Bulldog fans even want to see him have another chance at Alabama?  It’s a shame there weren’t any home-grown QBs in the Class of 2018 to replace Jake Fromm this year.

Kentucky

Are we sure this isn’t footage from a Kentucky game?

With a bye week and then a game against the SEC’s 2nd-worst run defense, there’s probably not too much need for optimism that the Wildcats are going to scheme up some elaborate pass plays for the Commodores.

LSU

Is this what Ed Orgeron was going for when he released his new book last month titled “Flip the Script?” If Carole Baskin happens to be in Baton Rouge, Tigers fan may be enchanted to set her up on a lunch date with Bo Pelini somewhere near Mike the Tiger’s exhibit. Who would have thought Joe Burrow would have the same number of wins as LSU does by November?

Mississippi State

Might Mike Leach be under the impression that in order to be eligible for the Egg Bowl, your offense has to lay an egg in 11 of the last 13 quarters? If the Pirate can’t score at least 20 on Vanderbilt, it might officially be time to abandon ship.

Mizzou

Don’t let a benches-clearing brawl that Missouri instigated distract you from the fact that the Tigers had their worst offensive game of the season against what was one of the lesser defenses in the SEC entering this past weekend. The only thing worse stemming from Missouri’s football program might be Drew Lock’s rhythm.

Ole Miss

What Arkansas taketh away, Vanderbilt giveth back. A nice little get-right game for Matt Corral after a couple of bad performances. Lane has a whole weekend now to play with his M&M’s from Halloween and learn to sort and count so that one day he can do the math on those SEC fines.

South Carolina

The Gamecocks beat Auburn but were housed by LSU … something doesn’t quite add up here. Is Collin still a Hill Muschamp and Gamecock fans are willing to fight for? South Carolina may need a spark to keep up with the pace Kellen Mond has been on in 2 of his last 3 games.

Tennessee

The Vols were 1-4 at this point last season and finished 8-5, so surely fans are satisfied with the progress of 2-3. Or maybe losing to Sam Pittman incites a small riot and leads to a long, awkward offseason for Jeremy Pruitt.

Texas A&M

Greg McElory posed the idea Monday morning, but the Aggies should look into scheduling BYU or Cincinnati on Dec. 19 if they’d like to bolster their case for being the 4th-best team in the country. The only problem is COVID-19 testing. How many Aggies fans would be willing to pool money for adequate testing in order to ensure that matchup happens?

Vanderbilt

This one’s for all the marbles. Beat Mississippi State or face waiting until Sept. 4, 2021, when the Commodores welcome East Tennessee State to Nashville for their first chance to win since they beat the same Buccaneers in November 2019.
