It’s a busy day of college baseball as the Regional round of the NCAA Tournament is underway.

With the latest round of results, there are now three SEC teams in the winners bracket while two conference teams are looking to fight their way out of the losers bracket to stay alive.

Among SEC teams, the biggest surprise of Friday so far is that No. 15 national Florida fell to the Gainesville Regional’s bottom seed, USF, 5-3. The Gators will need to win four straight, starting with Saturday’s elimination game against the loser of Miami-South Alabama, to move on to Super Regionals. Florida’s situation isn’t helped by the fact that a rain delay of over two hours forced the Gators to go the bullpen earlier than planned.

Meanwhile, No. 1 national seed Arkansas actually trailed NJIT 3-0 entering the bottom of the third, but the Razorback bats then woke up and got going. The Hogs scored two in the third before exploding for seven more in the fourth, taking a 9-3 lead.  Things got interesting again when the Highlanders cut it to 12-8, scoring three in the eighth inning following a two-run seventh. The Hogs added an insurance run in the eighth and held NJIT scoreless in the ninth for a 13-8 final.

No. 7 national seed Mississippi State is also in the winners bracket of the Starkville Regional after an 8-4 win over Samford. The 2-3-4 hitters of Tanner Allen, Kamren James and Luke Hancock provided six RBIs.

Alabama is the No. 3 seed in the Ruston Regional, hosted by No. 16 national seed Louisiana Tech. The Crimson Tide fell to NC State on Friday 8-1. Like UF, UA needs to win four straight to make it to Super Regionals.
