It took slightly longer for Oklahoma’s Board of Regents to announce their decision but they have come to the same conclusion as Texas, the Sooners have accepted the SEC’s invitation to join the conference.

Both boards met on Friday to announce their decisions, which each came following unanimous votes.

At this time, Texas and Oklahoma are officially set to join the SEC on July 1, 2025. The Longhorns and Sooners are currently contractually obligated to the Big 12 until that time.

That being said, it is expected that both schools will work hard to ensure they are able to join the Southeastern Conference as soon as possible. They could both join by the 2022 college football season.

One interesting note to come out of Oklahoma’s Board of Regents meeting, schools president Joe Harroz issued his hope that the annual Oklahoma State rivalry would continue after the Sooners move to the SEC.

“We want the Bedlam Rivalry to continue… in every sport, every year,” Harroz shared.
