College Football Playoff expansion: Dan Patrick offers details, timing of latest developments
College Football Playoff expansion has been discussed consistently since the summer, but recent meetings have ramped up talk over timing and how many teams would be involved in an expanded format.
The CFP’s management committee is expected to meet next on Dec. 1, as it decides on an 8-team or 12-team format, when that expansion would happen. Dan Patrick offered these thoughts on the issue from a source to his syndicated radio audience and on the Peacock streaming service.
“A 12-team Playoff is a go,” Patrick said. “But they want to get it done for next season. If it’s not approved in December, the Playoff won’t be a go with 12 teams until 2025. We’re going to know in the next couple of weeks if we’re going to be expanding to 12-team Playoff for next season, and if they don’t get it passed, it’s going to be 2025.”
