Jeff Scott is the latest college football coach to be fired. South Florida made the announcement Sunday. USF also dismissed defensive coordinator Bob Shoop.

Scott, a former Clemson assistant, was hired as USF’s head coach ahead of the 2020 season. In 2-plus seasons under Scott, the Bulls went 4-26. Athletic director Michael Kelly said Scott’s tenure fell short of expectations for the football program:

“When Jeff came to Tampa in December of 2019, we had high expectations for where he could take our football program. While he did so many things right, including rebuilding our culture, pushing forward our Indoor Performance Facility, and engaging our community, the on-the-field results fell well below our standards. He is a tremendous person and class individual and we wish him, Sara, Savannah and Hunter all the best in the future.

“In the days ahead, I will share information about our search for a new head coach. Our focus right now is on the talented young men in our football program.”

USF fell to 1-8 in the 2022 season after losing to Temple 54-28 Saturday. The Bulls nearly gave Scott a signature win against Florida in Week 3 of the 2022 season, but the upset fell just short in a 31-28 game.

Scott, 41, is originally from Arcadia, Florida. He played wide receiver and special teams for Clemson from 2000-to-2002.

In 2006, Scott got into coaching at Blythewood High School. Scott was a wide receivers coach at Presbyterian for the 2007 season.

Scott joined the Clemson coaching staff in 2008. He coached wide receivers the entire time he was on staff with the Tigers through 2019. Scott held the recruiting coordinator title until 2014 and added the co-offensive coordinator in 2015.

USF last reached a bowl game in 2018 under Charlie Strong.
