The Clemson Tigers went into their Week 1 opener against Georgia with lots of hype around their offense and new QB DJ Uiagalelei.

Well, that offense accounted for only 3 points in Clemson’s 10-3 loss to the Bulldogs in Charlotte. Now, even with a weak ACC schedule in front of them, the Tigers’ College Football Playoff hopes could be in jeopardy.

On “McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning” on WJOX on Monday, SEC Network host Paul Finebaum said Clemson’s schedule doesn’t do it any favors moving forward:

“They’re in big trouble. I would say they’re DEFCON 1 right now,” Finebaum said. “Circumstances change. We could see Oklahoma be weaker than we thought, or Ohio State stumble somewhere or someone else and make it easier. But if you look at this pragmatically, it’s hard to argue against Alabama and Georgia on a collision course to see who will be No. 1 in the Playoff and who will be No. 4, or 3, however they decide to divvy it up. The ACC had the worst weekend. That’s not even debatable. … Clemson was disappointing, but if one play — if JT had thrown the pick-6 — Georgia left something to be desired too. … Clemson can claim how great they’ll recover, but there’s nowhere for them to go. They have nobody on the schedule that helps them out.”

Can the ACC get its act together? We’ll find out moving forward.
