It would be surprising if anyone called that Texas A&M and Florida would meet in the semifinals of the SEC Tournament.

Regardless of what anyone thought, that was the case on Saturday as the Aggies and Gators faced off in Bridgestone Arena. Florida toppled No. 4 seed Alabama on Friday in what was an upset-filled day in Nashville. Texas A&M sent Kentucky packing after a 97-87 win to earn a sport in the semifinals.

When the smoke cleared Florida advanced to Sunday’s final with a 95-90 win. Here’s some takeaways from another exciting day of SEC action in Nashville:

Wade Taylor’s efforts not enough to get past Gators

One of the more electric players in the SEC Tournament has no doubt been Wade Taylor IV.

He produced some incredible numbers once again, but Florida outlasted the Aggies. Taylor finished the game with 30 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists. He headlined a total of 9 players with 10+ points in the game.

Taylor kept the Aggies in the game with his 3-point shooting, going 6-for-12 from 3-point range. Unfortunately, the rest of Texas A&M’s roster finished 2-for-9 from deep.

Denzel Aberdeen sets new career high

Denzel Aberdeen gave the Gators a huge boost off the bench with 20 points.

This was a new career high for him in scoring. The most points he had scored in his career before Saturday’s game was 12 against Florida A&M towards the beginning of the season.

It felt like Aberdeen just couldn’t miss the basket at times for Florida. Aberdeen went 6-for-9 from the floor and 4-of-5 from 3-point range. He put in some work defensively as well with 4 steals while also hitting his free throws, going 4-for-4 from the charity stripe.

There was no shortage of scoring in this game, but Texas A&M’s bench was not as effective as Florida’s. Aberdeen led a Florida bench that outscored the Aggies’ bench 29-to-10.

Not all hope lost for Texas A&M

After a deep run in the SEC Tournament that ended in the semifinals, the Aggies are still most likely going to be playing in the NCAA Tournament.

As of Saturday, Texas A&M was 1 of the 4 last byes per Joe Lunardi’s latest bracketology update. This means that the loss shouldn’t have an impact on whether or not Buzz Williams and the team continue playing further into March. It looks like fans should see both Florida and Texas A&M in the NCAA Tournament.

The final will consist of Florida and Auburn, which probably wasn’t too many people’s predictions for the conference tournament. The Gators will be trying to win the tourney for the 1st time since 2014 on Sunday, and fans can track all the odds for the matchup with SDS’s best sports betting apps.

Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. ET via ESPN.
