The Southeastern Conference has done a tremendous job building up its basketball league in recent seasons but don’t think that work is done as the league office has officially announced a new scheduling partnership with The American conference.

According to the SEC, the two leagues have agreed to have four schools from each league meet for two-year, home-and-home series that begins next season. This news was previously reported as an avenue for SEC teams not involved in the league’s annual SEC-Big 12 Showdown to still have the potential to gain a quality win against a non-conference opponent.

“Men’s basketball in the SEC has been on the rise and this scheduling alliance will help to continue the growth of the sport,”  Commissioner Greg Sankey said via release from the SEC. “This will provide four high quality games for both leagues during non-conference play.”

The teams set to participate in the SEC-American matchup will be announced at a later date.
