Because St. Louis is just up 55 from Memphis, making it a halfway point between the schools and allowing a major exhibition game in a city without a current NFL team. This allows more exposure, more revenue, and the chance for the St. Louis players to play in front of family, which helps recruiting
Eli Drinkwitz just lost to a coach that is about to be fired and a third string QB. His decision making is pathetic, when you only play not to lose, rather than to win, you will lose. His cowardly decision to set up a field goal rather than show confidence in his offense to try to get a touchdown was one of the most pathetic coaching moves I’ve ever seen. Fire that dork. Fire him. What a loser
I had to wait an entire day to post this. To really process what happened. And I still can’t list or explain how or why this game happened. This many errors in this many aspects of the game means it’s coaching. We all know that, and Drink knows it too. That’s all it is, poor coaching All I can really say is this. I’ve been a Mizzou fan my entire life. I’ve watched us beaten many times, and it’s especially been a rough few years. I’ve been frustrated, I’ve been angry, and I’ve been disappointed. But I have never been embarrassed. I’ve never actually felt shame for supporting my team and my state. Until yesterday
Again, all he said was he would rather play regional games to help recruiting. He said nothing to downplay BC’s talent, or to insinuate that Mizzou was going to win. Anybody that’s watched us this year knows with our defense, no game is safe
His comment was blown way out of proportion. All he was saying is that he would rather play games in our regional footprint in order to help recruiting. He meant no disrespect and definitely didn’t refer to the game as insignificant. But either way, I agree that there was no reason to give that answer. They’re on the schedule, so you play the game. The real issue is our pathetic defense
This might be the worst defense in the FBS. Wilks was a terrible hire. Offense will play well enough to keep Mizzou semi-close in games like this, and Kentucky, Scar, Tenn etc, but will still lose. GA will absolutely demolish them, same with Fla. Only win on the schedule left is North Texas. Impossible to win a game with a defense this bad. Embarassing
To be fair, Moe has a point, although I would have chosen different wording. But while every fan base has their idiots and trolls who think their team is the best thing to ever grace the planet, I think Moe is addressing the fact that Mizzou fans are often more negative about their team than necessary. And it’s hard to blame them when you consider the Fifth Down, the Flea Kicker, the injuries and the awful luck that just seems to curse Mizzou football. Hell, I can still vividly hear the sound of that football clanking off the upright in OT against South Carolina in 2013. But every team has faced bad luck and hardship. Not every coach is going to come in and go undefeated his first year. That’s the issue. You’ve got people calling for Barry Odom’s blood, when all he’s done is build a solid program that is continually getting better. Mizzou fans need to realize that we have what many other teams are not fortunate to have... a healthy (fairly) team, a solid coach, a very good offense and a stubborn defense. The season is going ok, so enjoy the games. If you don’t agree, ask an Arkansas or Tennessee fan how their year is going
That’s funny. There is hardly a single college left in this country that is not overrun with radical leftist ideology. I dislike it as much as you do, but to act like one school has it and another doesn’t is a joke. Unfortunately the media blew the ridiculous actions of a few into a firestorm, but that’s how things go these days. Missouri is about as deep red a state as can be. It’s at every college man, just hope that your university leadership handles things better than we did
We’re still here, through good times and bad. It’s dissapointing when your team goes out and lays an egg so naturally folks are pretty upset. It’s also kinda trashy to call out fans after a tough loss. The safe space thing is pretty old now too dude. You think there’s no snowflakes at your state university? Most Missourians hated that entire protested and despised the way that our administration handled it. But it’s still our team and we’ll stick with them. Barry Odom is trying to bring us past all that, and this loss was just another bump on the road. Hopefully the team learns from this, hires a real OC, and gets ready to play next year
Not to mention the actual battles we had with them before during and after the Civil War
Haha I wouldn’t call that a burn. He basically insulted me by saying I’m a Mizzou fan. Damn right and damn proud. Which honestly just illustrates my point about the bias in this article, instead of objective football analysis. On one hand, he claims Mizzou fans will forever cling to those division championships, while at the same time claiming Florida is a powerhouse for having three national championships... in the past. So he basically proved my point. Clinging to the past means nothing. College football is ever changing. Those back to back division titles don’t mean much to me, I simply was pointing out that in the 6 years since joining the conference we had enjoyed more success than Tennessee, the “powerhouse” referred to in the article. But like I said, it means nothing to me this year. This year, Missouri has demolished Tennessee AND Florida. I get that both teams were in the midst of coaching turmoil, but it’s impossible to argue with the results on the field. Which also brings up the funny point that when Tenn and FLA have coaching turmoil they are just seen as “down” and excused, but when Mizzou loses its winningest coach and deals with campus wide BS protests, that’s seen as Mizzou’s “normal place.” Just sayin. Anyway, anyone who has watched the SEC in the past 5 years can tell you that Tennessee and Florida are not exactly Alabama Easts, and neither have been for quite some time. The East, apart from a solid Georgia program, is wide open for the foreseeable future. Aren’t Mizzou fans just the worst? We actually watch college football and pay attention, especially before we write articles haha
3 way race between Tenn, Florida and UGA? Are you serious? Tennessee hasn’t even competed for the east in how many years?! And Florida despite having a few strong years and taking advantage of a down East is hit or miss at best, not a perennial powerhouse anymore. Missouri just an upset here or there? We’ve won the East 2 times since joining the conference, Tennessee has won 0. Missouri has had a lot to overcome since the debacle in 2015, but Odom has this team on a upward climb. Kentucky has continually improved and is a much better team than Tennessee, not just “capable of an upset”, same with South Carolina. This idea of Tennessee and Florida being top ten powerhouses is a fantasy of the past. They are mediocre teams at best and have been for some time. Get your head out and try actually watching the games instead of clinging to the glory days of the past
Whining. That's what this article is. Whining about a number one's perfect season being ruined. Guess what, that's what makes it fun. If Alabama was ranked #1 preseason, carried it all throughout the season undefeated, then stomped everyone in the playoffs year after year, people would lose interest. The best team in the country shouldn't need protection. If they do, how can they claim to be the best team in the country? If Alabama wanted to keep its perfect season they should have beaten Clemson. That's all. Just win, and then you don't have to whine. I wanted Bama to win, but it's just as exciting to watch a team like Clemson and players like Deshaun Watson and Hunter Renfrow rise up and prove doubters wrong. That's why the playoff is awesome. I too think it needs to be expanded. My suggestion is a 6 team playoff. As a rule, the winner of each Power 5 conference goes automatically. This eliminates the "committee" aspect, and takes out the human element that led to situations like Ohio State/ Penn State this year. Make it a rule set in stone, you want in the playoff? Win your conference. That leaves one spot for a wildcard, like an undefeated Western Michigan or a team that got hot right at the end. The wild card would be decided by committee, which would add a little mystery and excitement to the tournament. I would have #1 and #2 get a first round bye. There, there's your reward for being the best team in the country through the regular season. 3 plays 5, 4 plays 6. The winner of 3&5 plays 1, winner of 4&6 plays 2. Winners equal your championship game. This way no one can complain that an expanded playoff would force #1 to play too many games, with a bye their playoff would still only be 2 games. I believe this 6 team playoff would be the most accurate way to declare a true champion, and cut down on a lot of the conspiracy theories and complaints.
We have a brand new HC, a brand new OC, a brand new DC, a sophomore QB, and huge injuries on defense. Of course we're down this year but we won't stay there. In 2012 everyone said we couldn't compete in the SEC and we won the East the next two years in a row. We've already accomplished more in the SEC than certain teams have. So enjoy the trash talking this year, we sure are horrible. But in a year or two when we're stomping your team on our way back to Atlanta, remember how cocky you were when we were down. We're SEC, proud of it, and we'll be competing in this league for a long time to come
Wow... Your wit truly knows no bounds
